In the wake of her older sister’s suicide, Rachel Tonies is left with many unanswered questions. After finding out that her sister – Dianne – had been leading a double life for the past six years, she embarks upon a final investigation of her sister’s life. ‘Schijnstudent’ tells the story of Rachel’s search for answers and explores the different ways in which grief manifests itself within a family. The film furthermore raises questions about identity and the pressures young people face in university.
‘Schijnstudent’ premiered at the NFF and was widely discussed in the media after its television broadcast. The film was made possible by the Netherlands Film Fund, CoBo and the NPO fund.
